About Hiding In Plain Sight

Our Mission, Goals, & Values

Hiding In Plain Sight provides a range of resources designed to educate the public and empower any person struggling with an eating disorder or body image issues.

We Can Help Make Change

Our nonprofit organization provides a range of resources including workshops and discussions, therapeutic art-making, personal coaching, and informational materials designed to educate the public and empower people who, for whatever reason, are not getting care or are at risk of developing an eating disorder.

Our ultimate mission is to educate, advocate, and raise awareness about the many faces of eating disorders and how to recognize the symptoms, the connection with body image, and the role society and the media play while providing a safe space filled with kindred spirits ready to provide encouragement and support.

Changing the Narrative

Your eating disorder may be overlooked because you don’t fit neatly into the stereotypes associated with the condition.

This is true among countless Black, Indigenous and  People of Color (BIPOC), as well as people from low-income groups and men with eating disorders.

Many have “comorbidities” alongside their eating disorders, like PTSD, depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, among others.

For these folks, being unseen can stunt their ability to find true healing and learn how to love themselves.

We want members of our vibrant community to truly love themselves and their beautiful essence. We embrace the beauty that starts within while honoring positive choices that exhibit self-love and kindness

Changing the future

Our community of healing is sending a message loud and clear that one size does not fit all and each person should be evaluated and treated as an individual with a unique set of challenges and strengths. The process of healing and recovery is not linear or easy. Sometimes the journey is slow and rocky, moving at “sloth speed.” But together, we will get there.

If you’ve been hiding in plain sight, we want you to know that we see you and we want your voice to be heard.

We support EVERYONE in all stages of recovery and disorders. All are welcome. We are fighters and we will be seen as fierce survivors. Join us!

Changing Media’s Impact

Eating disorders have been an issue as long as the media have been around promoting a mythical standard of beauty.

Today, social media are creating new pressures as women and men and even children are trying to fit into a curated standard of beauty and impossibly perfect lives. As social media continue to take hold of our lives, we’re seeing a disturbing rise in mental illness and body dysmorphia leading to eating disorders and other self-destructive behaviors.

At Hiding in Plain Sight, we want to harness the power of social media to change the narrative of curated perfection. We do this by promoting a spirit of self-love, acceptance, and a body-positive ethos among all people, regardless of race, body type, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, income level, or any other factor..

Our inclusive lifestyle community, founded by people in various stages of recovery from eating disorders, embraces overlooked people “hiding in plain sight.”
